In an effort to include more fitness options for healthy activities, South Abington Twp Parks, Recreation and Shade Tree Commission has installed four new pieces of stationary fitness equipment in the park.

Located just off the walking path, along the treeline of the upper portion of the park, above the splash pad, a Sit-Up Bench, Horizontal Bars, Parallel Bars, and Multi Bars stationary equipment has been installed and is ready for the community’s use. “It was an important project for me, as physical fitness and muscular strength is important for us all to maintain for our physical and mental health,” says Keri Anders, project lead: South Abington Twp Parks, Recreation and Shade Tree Commission Member.

Funded in part by a donation from the Abington Senior Center and the 2019 Park’s Budget, the equipment installation project has totaled $6,141.00. The four pieces of equipment are manufactured by TriActive, made in the USA, and designed and manufactured with functionality and durability in mind; able to withstand our four-season weather. “So many people enjoy walking at our park, and since this equipment can be used by all ages we want to give the community a chance for something new to motivate them to reach their goals,” continued Anders.

South Abington Park is located at 642 Northern Blvd, adjacent to the South Abington Elementary School. The park includes athletic fields, basketball courts, pickleball courts, children’s splash pad, children’s playgrounds, and a paved walking trail taking you throughout the park’s total footprint.
