Due to a growing problem with bed bugs, all mattresses and box springs must be wrapped with plastic before collection.
SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP has contracted with JP Mascaro & Sons for refuse and recycling pickup. The service may only be activated by calling the Township office, 570-586-2111 X 1. The quarterly trash fee is $125.64 (2024) and billed by JP Mascaro. Please contact the office to inquire about the requirements for Senior Citizen and Low Income rates. Various forms can be found below.
Six major holidays will postpone a normal scheduled day to the following day ONLY if they fall on a weekday. The holidays are as follows: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. If any holiday falls on a weekend, your regular day will NOT change. Also be advised, as per the contract, J P Mascaro may pull their trucks due to inclement weather for the safety of their employees and the general public. They will return once able to do so safely on the next available business day.
SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP is a mandated recycling community under Pennsylvania Act 101. Residential establishments must recycle newspaper, glass, aluminum, bi-metallic containers and plastics. Please place all items at the curb the evening before your scheduled pick-up day after 5:00 PM.
Senior Citizen Trash Affidavit
CFL bulbs (small round/curly only) may be dropped off at the Township Building during regular office hours. The energy saving bulbs have small amounts of mercury that should not be introduced into the waste stream.
Corrugated cardboard dumpsters are located along the township garage access driveway near Quality Pools. The dumpsters are clearly marked for the acceptable contents for each. Residents are strongly encouraged to place their recycling outside their home as the dumpsters are a benefit to the businesses located within the township.
As a Pennsylvania mandated recycling municipality, all businesses must recycle, at the minimum, aluminum, high grade office paper and cardboard. A Recycling Report must be submitted each year to the Township, accompanied by certified weight slips. Helpful information for commercial recycling can be found below
Leaves and Christmas trees will be picked up seasonally, with dates advertised on this website. It is requested that grass clippings remain on the lawn.
